Aims and Scope

Language assessment has become increasingly important over the past two decades in high stakes assessment for work, study and migration. Consequently, comparability, reliability, validity and common standards of assessment have become a major focus for testers, students and other stakeholders.

The current special edition aims to explore the ways in which language assessment has evolved in the 21st century – with a particular focus on standards, and the acceptance of reference scales such as the CEFR. The edition wishes to invite contributions to assessment-related topics including but not restricted to the following:

• Validation 
• Test development 
• Impact 
• Test use and misuse 
• Statistical investigations 
• Standards in developing language assessments (e.g., large-scale language assessments) 
• Responses to the impact of Covid-19 on assessment (e.g., the growth of computer-adaptive assessment; online assessment)
